Pinkish end papers. First published in London in 1791. Introduction by John Harris, Curator Drawings Collection, Royal Institute of British Architecture [RIBA]. Has a copy of the original title page from 1791. Lavishly illustrated with 100+ b/w drawings and diagrams. "...may well be described as the Englishman's Palladio and Vignola, for it spoke to generations of architects with almost as much authority as those two great exponents of Renaissance theory and practice...first appearancce in 1759 was followed by two more editions in the author's lifetime [1723-1796], the third, 'considerably augmented', with the expanded title, A Treatise on the Decorative Part of Civil Architecture (1791) . These editions, and the four issued in the 19th century, bear witness to the book's extensive influence on the practice of architecture in Great Britain...." Appears as if it might have been meant for a library, but other than the missing rear end paper, and stamp 'discard' inside back cover, there are no other marks in the book. Very oversized and heavy, extra shipping; 7#. ; B & W illustrations; Folio, 10 x 13 1/2; iv, 137+ pages; Cover has light bumping, shelf wear, fading on spine, rear end free paper gone; 'discarded' stamped inside rear cover. No other possible library markings in book. Some pages have a creased corner.. Very Good+ .
